Talloires Network Leaders Conference | Cape Town

“South Africa was the site of the 2014 Talloires Network Leaders Conference in December of that year. More precisely, the Spier Conference Center, near Cape Town, welcomed over 250 participants from 40 countries to a gathering of the minds to chart new directions for the university civic engagement movement.”

Notable speakers included South African dignitaries such as Western Cape Premier Helen Zille and Minister of Science and Technology Naledi Pandor, as well university chancellors from several universities including Tufts University, University of Western Sydney, Malmo University, Universidad Veracruzana. A forum with local vice chancellors included speakers from University of Cape Town, University of the Western Cape, Stellenbosch University, and Cape Peninsula University of Technology.”

This was a five day event, with key events and break-away sessions, covered by two photographers. We made use of remotely triggered off-camera flash, especially for the main events where the room was large and speakers on the stage had to be lit against the light-emitting screen behind them. An event like this requires a lot of technical know-how and on-your-feet thinking, as well as to be able to capture candid moments and coordinate and direct groups of people.

A highly enjoyable experience, and an honour to photograph some brilliant minds from across the world.

Wendy Anthonie’s Genade!

Founder of INKKoors Teater, writer, director, and producer Wendy Anthonie, produced this play by the name of Genade! drawing a full house audience and causing loads of enjoyment and laughter. We covered the event and documented some key scenes in the wildly successful play.

Hope Project | Signing Partners

The HOPE Project of Stellenbosch University (SU) was led by the late Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Prof Russel Botman, together with his management team and the Deans of the University’s Faculties. We had the honour to document the signing of Japanese partners to the project in 2014.

AC21 International Forum 2014

We love shooting academic conferences. The collective brain-power at these events is simply inspiring, and it’s incredible to witness these incredible intellectuals share ideas and discoveries, while getting to document it.

It was during the AC21 International Forum 2014 that the Hope Project, a Stellenbosch University project launched in 2010, gained a few signatories, this time from Japan.

We were also privileged to document the late Professor Russel Botman, Rector and Vice-Chancellor at the time, sealing this deal with his colleagues, and honoured to have been witness to it.

SANParks Honorary Ranger Fund-raiser Event

2016. A fun, adventure filled event hosted by the SANParks Honorary Rangers of the Karoo Region in the Karoo National Park. These guys know how to host, and they know how to make an event memorable. Apart from good food and technical 4×4 challenges, their guests were also entertained by Wim Filmater, an astronomer, and Willie Engelbrecht, who gave the most interesting geology lectures.
